Orientation

Each child reacts differently when starting in a childcare facility.  Some children love it right from the start, other children start out easily and then when they realize this is going to be a regular thing, they get upset.  Other children start out with a real separation problem that can take anywhere from a week to a month to adjust.

Start out with short stays in the Centre if possible.  Gradual entry at Cedardale Child Learning Centre Ltd. is mandatory.  Send along any special comfort items your child may have.

Talk about “The Centre” in a positive way with your child.  Children can sense if you are feeling guilty or
unsure about leaving them and will respond by being unsure them selves.

Make your good-byes short, sweet and definite.  Prolonging a good-bye with an upset child generally just makes both child and parents upset.  You also have the option of calling to reassure yourself that your child is o.k.   We will also take the initiative to call if time allows.

Don’t hesitate to talk with our staff about how your child is doing,  we understand how difficult the orientation period can be for parents.  Generally the educators will call and let you know that everything is going well.

Parents may stay for the first half hour if they wish on their child’s first day and pick up again at 11:30am.  On the second day your child will eat lunch with us and on the third day your child will have a rest with us.
